Session focus: Getting into the Christmas Spirit!

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way is there to celebrate than by merging science with festivity by making our very own Chremistree? To obtain our spectrum of colours, we combined many different chemicals ranging from common chemicals, such as Sodium Hydroxide and Hydrochloric acid with an added touch of Universal indicator, to more eccentric substances such as Cyclohexane. In dealing with these substances, we ensured all safety precatuions were taken - lab coats, eyewear and gloves.

Materials Needed:

  • Volumetric flasks 250ml

  • Clamp stands and clamps

  • Range of acidic and alkaline solutions (eg. HCl, NaOH)

  • Universal indicator

  • Distilled water
